Founder & Chief Investment Officer

General Partner
Bryan Cooper is a founder and General Partner of Lane Gate Advisors, LP, and Chief Investment Officer of Life Opportunity Fund I LP, to which he brings over two decades of expertise in life insurance sales, distribution, risk assessment, and investing. His professional career began in 2003 at Family Protection Group, where he focused on life and annuity products for the senior market. In his first year, he excelled as a top producer and joined the partnership, paving the way for his leadership from 2005 to 2011, during which he inspired over 100 agents and enhanced product development training, and sales in senior products and life settlements.
In 2013, Bryan made a strategic shift towards the life settlement market, recognizing the vast potential in short-term and viatical policies. He highlighted the critical role of disciplined medical underwriting in unlocking value. His careful selection of cases has built him a stellar reputation as he skillfully transforms complex medical documents into actionable insights, ensuring precise pricing. Over the past five years, he has confidently invested over $50 million in short-duration life settlement opportunities, delivering impressive double-digit returns for his investors. Among his many accomplishments in the creation of a repeatable underwriting framework that thoughtfully prioritizes impairment severity and trajectory, while constructing diversified portfolios to optimize both duration and yield.
Today, Bryan applies this underwriting-focused philosophy to Life Opportunity Fund I LP, strategically aligning acquisition, servicing, and exit timing with the fund's performance goals. His commitment to transparency and a data-driven approach during portfolio review fosters an environment of consistent, non-correlated returns, building trust and confidence among stakeholders in their journey toward financial success.
Scott Willkomm joined Lane Gate Advisors, LP, as a General Partner in November 2025, bringing over three decades of leadership in life settlements, life insurance, reinsurance, and capital markets. His career began as a financial institutions investment banker in New York, advising insurers and reinsurers for 13 years at Merrill Lynch, Sandler O'Neill, Oppenheimer, and Prudential Securities, where he orchestrated the formation of Scottish Annuity & Life Holdings Ltd, a pioneer in offshore life reinsurance, and lead-managed its $250 million IPO. In 2000, he joined Scottish as President, where he helped build the firm into an NYSE-listed top-five global life reinsurer with approximately $2.5 billion in annual revenue and over $1.2 trillion of life insurance risk reinsured, while pioneering insurance-linked securitizations through a dedicated capital markets subsidiary.
In 2007, Scott pivoted to life-contingent assets full-time, leading Mortality-Linked Products at J.G. Wentworth and launching the first nationwide direct-to-consumer life settlement origination channel. From 2009 to 2012 at Coventry, he secured multi-year institutional capital, structured fund products, and expanded into primary life insurance via the acquisition of a carrier. He founded Old Stone Capital Partners in 2012 to advise on strategic insurance transactions and, from 2016 through early 2025, served as Chief Executive Officer of Life Equity LLC, a leading provider and servicer of life settlements. Under his leadership, Life Equity's policy purchases grew at a 22% CAGR, market share doubled from 7.5% to 15.4%, and operating efficiency improved by 50%.
Today, Scott applies this disciplined, data-driven approach to Life Opportunity Fund I LP - aligning acquisition, valuations, servicing, and exit timing to compound value and deliver resilient, non-correlated returns. He has served as Chair and Vice Chair of the European Life Settlement Association and holds an A.B. with Honors in Government and Legal Studies from Bowdoin College.
